5. Ending
When he arrived at the crater of Mount Sawal, Munding Depa met a witch. Her face was very ugly and horrible. Her hair hung down covering a part of her wrinkled face. Her canine teeth appeared from her wide mouth.
The witch embraced Munding Depa and said, “My beloved husband, don’t you recognize me? I am Puteri Dewi Ngalima, your wife.”
Munding Depa angrily cried, “You’re villain. My wife is not as bad as you. Don’t try to deceive me.
You’re a bad woman. Go away!”
“Bad … bad . . . bad woman…!” she cried. Her voice echoed. She jumped onto the back of her horse and ran away.
Munding Depa was startled hearing the horrible cry. His body was trembling, and he fell down. Then the powerless body rolled down the mountainside until it reached the place where the six men who were killed by him were lying. There his body stiffened slowly, and at last it changed into stone.
When the whole of Munding Depa’s body had been changed into stone, there arrived the true Puteri Dewi Ngalima. While weeping Puteri Dewi Ngalima said, “Oh, my beloved Munding Depa, why did you not look for me? Now you are changed into stone like this.”
Munding Depa who had been changed into stone opened his eyes and said, “Oh, my beloved wife, I have been seeking for you everywhere.” After he said it, he shut his eyes again.
For forty nights and days the princes of Rangga Gading stayed there and took care of Munding Depa’s corpse that was changed into stone. The threads she brought with her became wet by the tears falling down from her eyes and by the dew, so they could not be weaved for her husband’s winding-sheet. After she stayed there for forty nights and days, Puteri Dewi Ngalima left the seven stones which lied there.
Now if we come to the place at the slope of Mount Sawal, we will see six headless statues and a statue wearing the king’s robe there.
That is the story of the statues at the slope of Mount Sawal. Meanwhile Puteri Dewi Ngalima wandered everywhere. One day she arrived at a place near the lake. Not far from the lake there was a cemetery.
In the cemetery grew a big banyan tree. When the night fell Puteri Dewi Ngalima walked around the cemetery and went on weaving a winding-sheet. But when the day came she climbed up a big banyan tree to hide herself.
According to the villagers of Desa Talaga, Puteri Dewi Ngalima is still weaving there. When the moon is full we may hear the vague sound from the cemetery. It is the sound of her weaving tools.
When the villagers hear such mysterious sound, they may feel frightened. They may pull the blankets and shut their ears with the pillows.
That’s the story of Puteri Dewi Ngalima, the princess of Rangga Gading.
The full moon comes every month and the village is still quiet as its nature.
Only god knows.
