4. The Unsuspected Disaster
At last the king of Rangga Gading who was in confused condition, just found a way. Therefore he said to Munding Depa, “My son the Prince of Pajajaran. Please sit down by me, but forgive me because the throne is an unusual one, only a big stone.”
The leader of Pajajaran’s delegation heard it, so he quickly whispered to Munding Depa, “My Lord, do not sit on the throne because it would cause disaster.”
Then Munding Depa spoke to the King, “His Majesty, respectfully let me sit here-Later, when I become your son in law, it will be my right to sit on the throne.”
Not long afterwards, the wedding party between Munding Depa and Puteri Dewi Ngalima was carried out.
The Princess, Puteri Dewi Ngalima, guided by bridesmaids, entered the bride room to wear the bride dress. Meanwhile Munding Depa was asked by the King to sit on the throne beside him. Munding Depa forgot the message that was whispered by the leader of the delegation, so he sat on it.
The bride had not come out yet to sit by the bridegroom. They waited for her since the sun shone on the east side until it shone on the west side. At last Munding Depa entered the bride room to see Puteri Dewi Ngalima. But Puteri Dewi Ngalima was not there. He only saw that the bridesmaid and her assistants were crying.
Knowing that Munding Depa entered the room, one of the bridesmaids came to him and said that Puteri Dewi Ngalima was flown by a ghost. The ghost appeared to be a horse with no rider on its back. The miraculous horse ran out of the bride room through the window, and the Princess was invisible, only her voice was heard saying, “My husband the prince of Pajajaran is sitting on the throne, so come the disaster. . . .”
After Munding Depa heard what the bridesmaid said he felt sad. He thought the disaster was caused by him, because he didn’t obey the massage that was whispered by the delegation’s leader.
Full of sorrow and anger he jumped on his horse and ran away to Mount Ciremai. He forgot to ask his father in law’s permission to look for Puteri Dewi Ngalima who disappeared.
After he arrived at Mount Ciremai he asked the hermit who lived there to help him in finding Puteri Dewi Ngalima. He told the hermit what happened to him.
“That is what happened to me. So now I ask you to lend me a flying horse. I’ll fly it everywhere even around the world to find my wife,” said Munding Depa.
“My grandson, I cannot fulfill your request because the flying horses are used by the Dewas,” said the hermit. “So please help me to ask the Dewas to leered me an eagle,” said Munding Depa again.
“That’s impossible too, my grandson. The eagle is Dewa Wisnu’s riding animal, but I will try to help you. Now close your eyes, please,” said the hermit.
Then Munding Depa closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes again he saw his horse had wings like the flying horse. Munding Depa thanked the hermit and after that -he rode the flying horse. He flew southward.
When he arrived at the slope of Mount Sawal he saw six men talking there. He flew dawn, and he asked them whether they had met his wife, Puteri Dewi Ngalima.
The six men looked very astonished. They whispered to each other.
Munding Depa was angry. He threatened them that when they did not answer his questions he would beat them.

At last one of them said, “I saw her flying like a white dove.”The second man explained, “I saw her flying to heaven like an angel.” The third man said that he saves Puteri Dewi Ngalima like a deer, and she was running away, avoiding the hunter. The fourth man explained that he saw her like a tigress and was eating a sheep. The fifth man said, “I saw her like a witch. Her face was very bad.”
“And the witch was killed by us, and her corpse was thrown down into the valley,” they said at the same time.
Munding Depa heard all of their explanations, so he became angrier. Then he drew sword out of its sheath and, cut their necks one by one. After he killed them he cried, “I swear all of you will be changed into stones!” In a moment that remained bodies were changed into stones. But, afterwards Munding
Depa felt sorry.
With uncertain feelings Munding Depa led his horse up the Mount Sawal. Tireless he went on looking for Puteri Dewi Ngalima.
